Surprising Fashion Ideas at The Amber Avant-Garde Competition!

Twenty young fashion designers from 9 countries are going to present their creative and avant-garde fashion collections at the Amber Avant-Garde competition to be held during the Competition for Young Fashion designers Habitus Baltija 2014 on 5 April. The Amber Avant-Garde Competition is included in the events calendar of Riga – European Capital of Culture 2014.

Young designers will present leading edge fashion collections putting in a material form their ideas about the competition subject – amber. Competition entries symbolize the Riga 2014 thematic lines and embody the ideas of the Amber Vein.

"It is purely symbolically that all contestants come from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany ... countries of the ancient Amber Road," the project manager of Habitus Baltija 2014 Linda Lejiņa told. Participants will show off 21 fashion collections, she adds.

Among participants competing for the main prize – 500 EUR – there will also be young fashion designers from Latvia – Jeļena Aleksandravičūte (Riga Technical University), Evija Berga and Marika Džule (Art Academy of Latvia).

The panel of judges will be chaired by Prof. Giovanni Otonello (IED Roma). His colleagues include such fashion designers and renowned fashion experts as Peter Ingwersen (Denmark), Paul Marchand (France), Lara Aragno Gigli (Italy); well-known branding and marketing experts as Judith Tolley (United Kingdom), Victoria Diaz (Lithuania) and Heather Melville (United Kingdom), as well as the fashion designer and winner of Habitus Baltija 2011 Competition Leor Gofman (Belarus). Judges representing Latvia – Indra Salceviča, a designer of Red Salt, Olga Kolotova, a fashion editor of “L’Officiel Latvia”, and Anita Segliņa, a fashion blogger and fashion editor of “Pastaiga”.
