FDC “Teiksma” was founded in 1946. Initially it was the dance collective of the “Rīgas Vagonu rūpnīca” (rail and tram manufacturer), created to introduce students and workers to Latvian folk dancing traditions and stage choreography. Today FDC “Teiksma” is one of the top amateur dance ensembles in Latvia, which continues to nurture Latvian folk dancing traditions. Troup has won the Latvian Song and Dance Festival competition on several occasions, and also received wide acclaim of international festivals. Many famous dancing world legends have worked with the troupe over the time, including Ingrīda Saulīte, Harijs Sūna, Uldis Šteins, Dailonis Rudovics and others. The name of the collective, „Teiksma”, was coined by its former artistic director Viesturs Tīle (led the troupe from 1978 to 1998) who continues to actively support the ensemble to this day. Jānis Ērglis took over the reins of “Teiksma” as its artistic director in 1998. More at: www.teiksma.lv
