Trade Union LAKRS Will Inform Youth About the Benefits of Union Membership and Employee Representation

The Latvian Public Services and Transport Workers’ Trade Union LAKRS at Skola 2026 will inform youth who are about to enter the labor market about the benefits of union membership and how a trade union can specifically help young people (who are often a vulnerable group in the labor market) secure fair and adequate working conditions.

They will explain how young people can actively get involved in the trade union once they enter the labor market and outline the benefits of union membership, including:
35 Years of Experience
For 35 years, LAKRS has continuously defended the interests of workers in its represented sectors and does not plan to stop. LAKRS cooperates with other trade unions in Latvia and abroad.
Legal Support
LAKRS provides free and immediate legal consultations to its members. If you have questions about pay, working hours, workload, or other issues or disagreements with your employer, we will help you.
Negotiations with Employers
LAKRS conducts negotiations with employers regarding working conditions and terms, based on the recommendations and decisions of individual members and union organizations.
Representation of Sectoral Interests
Together, we can initiate and implement changes that benefit union members and the sector as a whole, for example by creating general agreements that are binding for all employees working in the sector.
Financial Support
The Social Interest Protection and Risk Fund (SARF) provides material assistance and support in various life situations and accidents.
Insurance Discounts
As a LAKRS member, you can purchase health or other types of insurance (KASKO, OCTA, travel insurance, etc.) for yourself or your family members under more favorable conditions.
Member Discounts
Members have opportunities to receive discounts on various services and events. The LAKRS office is currently actively expanding the range of available discounts.
Training Opportunities
LAKRS partner organizations offer both online and in-person training on various topics, including labor law and sector-specific subjects.

The Latvian Public Services and Transport Workers’ Trade Union LAKRS is a voluntary, independent, and democratic non-governmental organization that unites employees of various professions who currently work in 219 different companies and institutions in both the public and private sectors — including municipal service companies, transport and logistics companies, state administration and municipalities, service and manufacturing companies, hotels, and restaurants.
Their main objective is to unite employees for collective action to ensure recognition of the trade union and to strengthen its influence in implementing lawful demands.
LAKRS’s program of activities primarily includes social dialogue (collective bargaining) with employers and their organizations, concluding collective agreements, general agreements, and other arrangements regarding fair remuneration for completed work, safe and healthy working conditions, employment guarantees, regulations on working and rest time, and other guarantees arising from the Labor Law and other applicable legal acts of the Republic of Latvia and the European Union.
