Anita Šteimane takes home the title of the tastiest cake maker in Latvia from Riga Food!
Visitor-favourite cake competition Generational Legacy took place on 6 September, on the Gemoss stage of Riga Food 2025 trade fair at the Ķīpsala International Expo Centre. 26 pastry chefs from across the Latvia joined the competition to present cakes that rival each other in terms of taste, appearance and unique design.
“Generational Legacy 2025 cake competition was a real journey into the world of sweet cakes. Bringing families, friends, and neighbours together, it promotes the sharing of generational legacy through recipes that have been kept for tens of years and also bold innovations that will inspire future,” organisers from Gemoss claim.
This year’s competition was won and the Generational Legacy prize, whisker, went to Anita Šteimane and her cake “Meža bērnības sapnis” (Childhood forest dream).
“On top of macrame and basket weaving, making cakes and macaroons is one of my hobbies. I am a registered home producer, which gives me clearer goals and, above all, confidence in my abilities and the reason to not doubt myself so much,” Anita said two years ago. And now she stands on the top of the podium, showing that no one should doubt her skills and talent.
Ieva Fišere came in as the runner-up of the Generational Legacy 2025 with her cake “Rabarberu mājas kūka” (Rhubarb home cake). By the way, last year Ieva finished in third place with her chocolate cake. And Linda Ozoliņa won third place this year with her creation “Medus kūka ar Latvijas dabas pieskārienu” (Honey cake with a touch of Latvian nature).
Riga Food 2025 visitors voted the cake “Vienkārši torte pie tējas” (Just a cake to go along with tea) by Anastasija Zeiza-Seļezņova as their favourite.
All three winners will receive GEMOSS gift cards: 1st place – €500, 2nd place – €300, 3rd place – €200. There were special gifts for cake makers for all contestants.
26 tasty cakes presented at the Ķīpsala Expo Centre were evaluated by Gemoss Managing Director Ieva Treija, Normunds Skauģis, bread baker and founder of “Lāči” brand, business lady and cake master Liene Zemīte, pastry chef and owner of Kairi café Maija Kaire, pastry chef and author of “Kūku karaliene” (Cake queen) Amanda Ozoliņa and Gunta Duka, CEO of Latvian Bakers Association.
The aim of the Generational Legacy competition is to raise the awareness on special cake recipes, support development of baking as a profession, facilitate passing of recipes to next generations, and promote the significance of organic ingredients in making of those cakes.
