Discover technology to promote employee wellbeing at RIGA COMM 2019!
More than half of the employees are ready to quit their jobs to work in a way that is more relevant, in their opinion, to the characteristics of a normal workplace, a 2019 study has concluded.*. How technology can help improve wellbeing of the company’s employees, business leaders and HR specialists will find out at a seminar to be held on the Cognizant Future Work Stage at the business technology event RIGA COMM 2019, October 10–11.
“Today, when the lack of skilled and self-motivated employees and the promotion of their involvement have become one of the most important business challenges, working to meet the top needs of employees according to Maslow’s pyramid is a crucial factor in attracting and retaining the talented ones,” pointed out Artūrs Bernovskis, a chairman of the board at Efectio.com and one of the speakers at RIGA COMM 2019.
Working space and physical activity are important to ensure physical wellbeing
Workplace layout, furniture, microclimate and lighting are important factors that have an impact on both health and productivity of employees. Appropriate ergonomics makes processes more convenient and efficient. A study carried out by the University of Leicester concluded that 43% of employees had become more productive after a year of using standing desks. However, standing at work all day long transfers load to the legs, so the best method is to use a worktable that can be adjusted to the required height by the employee himself.
Physical health and well-being are closely linked to a quality nutrition and physical activity, which is particularly inadequate for office workers. Research has shown that healthy habits are closely linked not only to a reduced number of sick days, but also to lower stress levels, better cognitive abilities and learning outcomes.
Financial remuneration as a basis for material wellbeing
One of the main factors why an employee would be willing to change a job is a better pay. Although we often hear that money is not a good motivator, we should remember that if the employee does not feel financially stable and fairly rewarded, the salary would be a very important criterion in choosing a job. This involves both ensuring the basic needs of employees, a sense of security and a possibility of realising an appropriate social status.
Sense of belonging enhances social wellbeing
It is psychological security and trust within a team that Google has identified as one of the most important factors in an employee satisfaction. In this respect, Latvian companies have a room for growth – a study carried out by Kantar in 2019 shows that 35% of employees have a problematic relationship with a manager, while 27% regard cooperation among colleagues as weak.
If an employee feels a sense of belonging to an organization, he or she is five times more likely to show better performance; therefore, it is worth considering what type of workplace culture prevails at the company and whether it enhances collaborative relationships.
Mental well-being is influenced by self-fulfilment, purpose of work and spirituality
Self-fulfilment of an individual is at the very top of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. In the professional field, it is an opportunity for personal growth, the meaning of work, creativity and the ability to influence work processes. Deloitte’s 2019 study “Global Human Capital Trends” shows that only 43% of employees are confident that the employer provides them with attractive growth opportunities, while only 53% admit that their represented organization provides meaningful work. The recruiting company CareerBuilder has found out that more than a half of employees feel “burnt out”. Each third employee who faces increased stress in the workplace is not satisfied with existing work, but nearly a third of employees experience persistent fatigue, which has a critical impact on productivity, potential and creativity.
In order for employees to see their contribution to the organization and to contribute to the company in the long term, the employer must be able to provide an environment appropriate to wellbeing of employees. Such an environment can be built with advanced technology and virtual platforms such as Efectio.com, ENME and Sympa HR to be presented at the annual Business Technology Exhibition and Conference RIGA COMM.
Tickets are available on the Internet as well as in the box office during the event days. As the event approaches, tickets will become more expensive. RIGA COMM takes place at the Kipsala International Exhibition Centre (Ķīpsalas iela 8, Riga) on October 10, 10.00-18.00 and October 11, 10.00-17.00.
