Latvian Voices greets the young fashion designers
Winners of the 14th Young Fashion Designers Competition Habitus Baltic and Fashion Design Competition Amber Avant-Garde will be decided already Saturday, 5 April, at 16:30. Award ceremony will be graced by performance of an a capella ensemble Latvian Voices, the musical mascots of the Riga 2014 European Capital of Culture and World Choir Games.
“Fashion, art and music go hand-in-hand,” claims Linda Lejiņa, Project Manager of Habitus Baltic 2014. “We are thrilled to give contestants, jury and everyone else a unique opportunity to hear Latvian Voices – one of the best Latvian a capella ensembles, praised world-wide, as well. It is symbolic that girls will wear yellow amber stage costumes designed by one of the winners of Habitus Baltic 2013, Edīte Treija,” Linda Lejiņa says.
„As I worked on Identity collection for a capella ensemble Latvian Voices, I became increasingly aware of my own national identity and, more than ever, I felt that we as a small country looking for global recognition can be as big as our hearts and minds can go. Collection is built around the concept of the Sun, the everlasting symbol of perpetual progress and life. Sun is also a permanent fixture in all the world’s religions and myths. This collection combines ancient and modern elements: jewelry made of titan used in space technologies and symbolic representations of the Sun dating back 2000 years B.C. I used materials like linen, cotton and textiles made of amber yarn, knit together using the cording technique,” designer Edīte Treija adds.
