Synthesis of contemporary dance and extreme sports at Riga Magic Dance! 

Kipsala Halls presents the extreme dance show “Riga Magic Dance”, 10–11 May, to tear down all boundaries between art and sports and to provoke an intense discharge of emotions in a synthesis of contemporary dance and action sports. “Riga Magic Dance” is the Riga – European Capital of Culture 2014 Calendar event.

“Riga Magic Dance” brings together more than 300 contemporary dance, hip-hop, break dance, velotrial, freestyle, skateboard, frisbee, sport and street gymnastics, improvisation and modern technology prodigies to challenge their limits of capability in a show produced by the art director Edite Abeltina and the choreographer Guntis Spridzans.

‘This is a totally new project for Latvia! Athletes and dancers are going to tell a story of human emotions – loneliness, frustration, joy, sadness, anger, euphoria and, of course, love,’ the concept author and art director of the show Edite Abeltina explains.

“Riga Magic Dance” will be a spectacular show full of surprises and offering a fair amount of humour and irony, too. ‘We will hip-hop in a waltz time! Spectators will be given an opportunity to watch professional dancers doing extreme tricks, trialists and skaters performing contemporary dance steps,’ the godfather of Latvian hip-hop, art director and coordinator Edmunds Veizans tells.

“Riga Magic Dance” will present such well-known Latvian skateborders as Eduards Nehajenko, Maksims Feofilovs, Fricis Strauss and Niklavs Vetra from Clockwise, the pioneers of inline skating – Kaspars Alksnis, Raimonds Prusis of the legendary Therolling.lv Team, Janis Kirpis from Taktika.lv, the Dermaki brothers of Karters velotrial team, the BMX riders Viktors Kronbergs and Tomass Grinbergs from Ventspils and many other.

Trickers, trampolinists, parcourists from the Gymnastics Olympic Centre, frisbee players from Ultimate Decision and Salaspils FK, Team Limitless street gymnasts will offer unforgettable and breathtaking moments.

The show will also present such break dance crews as Camelot, Motion Bang, Soul City Breakers, and dancers from Veizans Dance School, Buras, The Hood, Let's Dance, Ghetto Dance Academy, Bump, Demo and other dance studios. Pulse Effect will add to the show unconventional and ethno percussion performances.

Riga Magic Dance sets an impressive stage!
Arturs Arnis, a stage designer, said that setting up an impressive 1000-m2 performance area with a diversity of ramps, platforms, obstacles and special flooring is about to begin in early April. Monsterpark is going to build the biggest in Latvia flybox for those in action sports. ‘A six-level dance floor will be of the size equal to the biggest of Olympic Centre’s swimming pools – at least 50 metres wide,’ Arturs Arnis told.

This event will tell much about the hip-hop culture – hip-hop, house, locking, popping, breaking, waacking, voguing, dance hall and other dance styles.

Tickets are available at Biļešu paradīze ticket offices and online at www.bilesuparadize.lv. Presale ticket prices from EUR 5 – EUR 10. Children under the age of 7, who do not occupy a separate seat, will be admitted free of charge.
