Third Generational Legacy cake competition at the Riga Food

Generational Legacy cake competition will take place on GEMOSS stage of the Riga Food 2025 on 6 September. During the competition, pastry chefs and cake makers from all over Latvia will put their skills to test.

Generational Legacy is a competition that pays tribute to Latvian traditional cakes. It celebrates the craftsmanship and identity that is passed down the generations to always find new, contemporary forms.

Jury and judging criteria
Jury, comprised of leading Latvian pastry chefs, has the necessary professional knowledge. One of the main criteria they will judge against is whether cake has been made using natural ingredients and seasonal products. Judges will evaluate the taste, visual qualities, unique choice of ingredients and story behind the cake.

Generational Legacy is a competition open to all cake makers that have at least 2-year experience baking this delicious treat. To register, participants will need to submit the application by 22 August (end of the business day). Participants are required to make two cakes made by them – one for presentation and one for tasting purposes. Tasting cake will be handed over to judges, whereas presentation cake will be put on display for the public.

Prizes
The first three places will receive GEMOSS gift cards: €500 for the 1st place, €300 for the 2nd place and €200 for the 3rd place. Winner of the people’s choice will receive GEMOSS gift card for €100. All participants will receive special prize for participation.

Winners of Generational Legacy 2024
Last year’s winner of the Generational Legacy cake competition and winner of the main trophy, the whisker, was Agnese Rūtiņa from Skrīveri, with her cake “Riekstiņš karamelē/Caramel nut”. Here is how she describes the experience: “Victory? Yeah, quite unexpected. But I put all my love in these cakes. This is my family’s favourite. It has everything they love: salted caramel, brownies, roasted caramelised hazelnut, cream cheese and Belgian black chocolate. I knew that this cake would make the hearts of judges beat faster.” The second place in the 2024 competition was won by Santa Āre from Valmiera brand “Mūsdienu virtulis/Modern doughnut” with her cake “Pārsteigums/Surprise”. The third place was awarded to Ieva Fišere and her chocolate cake.
