Moving Patterns dance mega show will bring together some of the best dance troupes
Folk dance collective “Teiksma” and friends invite you to their magnificent and colourful dance supershow “Soļi rakstos” (Moving Patterns) on 17 January 2026 at the Ķīpsala International Expo Centre. Dancers from 23 dance studios from Riga, Ādaži, Jelgava, Sigulda, Valmiera and even Daugavpils will take the stage during the performance which will start at 7pm.
In its third consecutive year, Latvian folk dance performances will resound loudly across the Ķīpsala Hall, penetrating the air with that unmistakeable uplifting energy and joy of being together. These shows have become a wonderful and essential tradition for dancers and the audience, merging the both.
The show kicks off the 80th anniversary of “Teiksma”, therefore it will be packed with nice little nuggets from different parts of collective’s rich history. It will also open the curtain on the forthcoming folk dance ensemble and youth group programme One horizon. Thousand threads a bit. You will, however, have to wait till next year’s May for that. And go to Liepāja. As for Moving Patterns, it is a great chance to see choreography from the shows of other performers. The night will intricately weave traditions and future visions, experience and youth, seriousness and joy into folk dance patterns.
“Little Ķīpsala dance festival is no small feat at all. With 23 groups performing as a single troupe, it is bigger than some of the regional festival performances. We are absolutely delighted to have so many friends and like-minded groups collaborating on the Moving Patterns. We are trying to fulfil the long-time vision of former leader of “Teiksma”, Viesturs Tīle, about Ķīpsala hosting its own dance festival. Festival born out of love for dance and people who love to dance,” Jānis Ērglis, Teiksma’s artistic director and choreographer, says proudly.
During the mega show, we will be able to see dancers from folk collectives like “Ačkups”, “Dancis”, “Gauja”, “Laismeņa”, “Lielupe”, “Līgo”, “Rotaļa”, “Sprigulītis”, “Teiksma”, “Vektors”, and dance ensemble “Vizbulīte”. There will be youth dancers from “Imanta” and middle-age dancers of “Ačkups”, “Dancis”, “Gauja”, “Jampadracis”, “Mūsu Lielupe”, “Laismeņa”, “Līgo”, “Pūrs”, “Teiksma”, “De Teiksma” and “Vektors”.
