Latvian chefs will compete to participate in the globally renowned Bocuse d'Or!

Dinārs Zvidriņš, Artūrs Taškans, Juris Latišenoks - three young, talented and well-known chefs in Latvia have taken up the challenge and on 5 September at the fair Riga Food 2019 will be competing for a place in the semifinal of the most prestigious gastronomic competition of the world Bocuse d’Or.

“The winner of the Bocuse d’Or Latvian National Selection, which will be determined in September, will have an opportunity to leave a mark on history as the first representative of Latvia to participate in Bocuse d’Or. This competition reveals the world’s best culinary talents and marks the peak of the chef profession,” says Svetlana Riškova, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Chefs’ Club.

One of the participants of the Bocuse d’Or Latvian National Selection, Juris Latišenoks, emphasises that each person can shape their own luck: “Every contest offers a great deal of experience that you can’t get anywhere else. Undoubtedly, you can learn best from your mistakes and attempts to win. This competition is very important to me, so I will spend the entire August training intensively. My coach Kaspars Jansons has extensive experience in competition, so in September expect a tough, fierce fight and, of course, great food!”

Competitors will be judged by a professional and international jury: Jo Nilsen from Belgium, Franciane Tartari from England, Aleksander Prokopovich from Russia, Dmitri Demjanov, Emannuelle Wille and Pavel Gurjanov from Estonia, Jarmo Huuhtanen from Finland, Gert Kletzke from Sweden and Jorn Lie from Norway.

In addition, the coach and supporter of the Latvian National Selection winner in the Bocuse d’Or semifinal in Tallinn will be the experienced expert Jo Nilsen from Belgium.

Chefs, students, industry representatives and interested persons are invited to watch the National Selection of the Bocuse d’Or contest, find inspiration and support their favourite participants on 5 September at the fair Riga Food 2019 (Hall No. 1) from 10:00–16:00. As we know, in April 2019, the Latvian Chefs’ Club received an official invitation to participate in the prestigious Bocuse d’Or competition, with the semifinal held in Tallinn in June 2020.

Bocuse d’Or is the world’s most prestigious gastronomic competition, often referred to as the "Culinary Olympics". Originally created in 1987 by the world-famous French chef Paul Bocuse. In the grand finale that takes place every two years in Lyon, France, 24 chefs from all over the world, winners of their National Selections and renowned representatives of their profession participate.

Not only the best chefs, but also aspiring chefs, bartenders and tea sommeliers will take part in the fair Riga Food 2019 to demonstrate their professionalism, skills and originality. Detailed information on the event programme of Riga Food 2019 can be found at:

As is known, from 4 to 7 September the Ķīpsala International Exhibition Centre will host the most significant event of the Baltic food industry – the fair Riga Food 2019, which offers an extensive exhibition of companies and organisations of the industry, competitions of experts and food products, entertaining shows, educational master classes and tastings.
