On 27-28 November 2009, Kipsala International Exhibition Centre first presented the employment and professional development fair Job and Career Advice 2009 held by International Exhibition Company BT 1 in conjoint with the State Employment Agency and the portal CV Online.

Job and Career Advice 2009 gathered such organisations and institutions as the State Employment Agency (NVA), the European Job Mobility Portal EURES, the State Labour Inspectorate, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, the State Education Development Agency, the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia, Riga City Council, many Latvian enterprises as the Mortgage Bank of Latvia, IMC Latvija, IG Konsultācijas, LANERI, FORTICOM, Skrivanek Baltic and many other.

The exhibition was opened by the Minister of Welfare Mr Uldis Augulis, the director of the State Employment Agency Ms Baiba Paševica, the chairman of the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia Mr Pēteris Krīgers and the director general of BT 1 Mr Viesturs Tīle.

Job and Career Advice 2009 provided topical information about the measures taken to promote labour opportunities, labour law in Latvia and abroad, and topical offers in training, retraining, efficiency building and business development, consultations in launching new business. Vacant jobs in the IT field were presented during the exhibition.

In two days attendance of the event reached 7644 highly motivated visitors aware of the participants offer and knowing what they need and are looking for. The positive participant and visitor feedback proved the event an effective communication platform between participants and visitors.

NVA and EURES for job seekers and employers
NVA offered experts advice, information about training and retraining of unemployed persons. Employers could get information on the NVA programmes aimed at particular person groups, training programmes for unemployed persons and job seekers, procedure of employment of foreigners, licensing and supervising of employment companies.

The European Job Mobility Portal EURES provided information on the opportunities to work, living and labour conditions, social security, taxation system and vacancies in the European Union, EEC and Switzerland.

In times when a job opening especially on the top executive level gathers a great number of applicants, employers might face difficulties in choosing the right person to entrust the future of their business development. Several companies, Exelect-Latvia among them, presented a complete range of personnel selection procedure from publishing a classified ad through analysing submitted applications and CVs to testing all candidates and selecting the one.

SIA IMC Latvija dealing in coaching, personnel development, consultations in human resources management, recruitment of top and medium level executives, offered a free coaching session to the participants of Job and Career Advice 2009.

Wide programme of educational events
Job and Career Advice 2009 presented a wide programme of free informative events that hit large attendance. Latvia’s major recruitment and personnel selection company CV-Online and I-Work Latvia organised seminars for job seekers, EURES presented a labour market review and provisions in the EU countries and other issues.

NVA held a seminar on the ESF programmes and measures aimed to attract as much as possible people to programmes they offer.
