Officials about "Riga Food 2016"
Jānis Dūklavs, Minister for Agriculture
Ministry of Agriculture also took part in the organization of "Riga Food 2015" because we appreciate those benefits Latvian food manufacturers get from participation in international trade shows. "Riga Food" brought together 703 companies from 37 countries this year. This is a significant number of exhibitors, and every company had the opportunity to find new partners and outlets for their goods or services. It is of great importance for those affected by the closure of the Russian market to EU exports.
As the Minister for Agriculture I can assure you that the assortment of Latvian-produced agricultural and food products is very diverse, high-quality and, above all, safe and healthy. Food industry has always played a significant role in the Latvian economy. Today, the food industry is the largest processing sector in Latvia the food and beverages sectors provided a fifth of total manufacturing turnover of the country in 2014. Last year, added value in the food and beverages sector was more than 530 million euros.
"Riga Food 2015" paid special attention to food innovation. Close cooperation among food manufacturers, scientists and research institutions is beneficial for everyone consumers, producers and national economy as a whole.
