The mission of the Intertextil Balticum project is to contribute to the development of manufacturing and trading companies, to boost direct cooperation between Latvian and foreign entrepreneurs, textile and clothing industry professionals, to reveal the development tendencies of textile and clothing industry and related branches in the Baltic countries, and to enhance competitiveness of Latvian manufacturing enterprises in global markets.

Exhibition

“Intertextil Balticum” is one of the strongest in the Baltics textile industry events and gathers participants not only from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia but many other countries of the world. The exhibition is organised by the International Exhibition Company BT 1 in conjoint with the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, the Association of Textile and Clothing Industry, the Association of Latvian Lingerie Manufacturers (LATVERA) and Diplomatic Economic Club, a union of foreign diplomatic representatives in Latvia. B2B Matchmaking Event

is a business contact platform aimed to contribute to enhancing international business relations and held by International Exhibition Company BT 1 and Diplomatic Economic Club. It provides a neutral and professional environment for business people to inform about products and business interests of their companies, to learn about products and interests of other participants, to ensure an opportunity of communication and effective timing of activities during the exhibition. The sales area of the exhibition is open to companies wishing to sell their products at special exhibition prices. Here visitors can find hand-crafted articles, mural decorations, tapestry, gorgeous home textiles, cushions and blankets, knitted and crocheted articles, silk paintings, embroideries, variety products of linen, cotton and other natural materials. The 2010 exhibition in retrospect

The 15th international Exhibition for textile, clothing, leather garments and production equipment Intertextil Balticum offering variety of textile and clothing industry goods and services took place from 9 to 11 April 2010 at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre in Riga, Latvia. The exhibition gathered 95 participating companies from Bulgaria, Estonia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, China, Pakistan and Ukraine, and 10,723 visitors, both general and professional, from 16 countries of the world.

Intertextil Balticum 2010 also presented a business support programme––B2B Matchmaking Event––designed to boost new contracts and partnerships through meetings of textile and clothing industry professionals and enterprises, commercial and economic officers of foreign embassies, governmental and municipal officials, and NGOs. The exhibition offered the conference “Textile Industry Innovation in Latvia and Worldwide”, seminars on fashion and style—“Commercial Approach to Fashion Design” conducted by Natalie Svikle from The Image Academy, London, and “Image Design: Building a Stylish Image” by the designer and fashion analyst Konstantin Bogomolov, the professional seminar “Problems and solutions in Thread Application”.

The exhibition offered a three-day presentation of the spring/summer fashion collections and the Competition for Young Fashion Designers “Habitus Baltija 2010”, as well as many other shows and presentations held by participants.

Ms Ilze Avota, a project manager of Intertextil Balticum, tells: “Intertextil Balticum has become a recognised meeting place providing textile and clothing industry professionals with all necessary professional information on topical business issues, new fashion trends, offering an opportunity to establish new business contacts at numerous presentations and the matchmaking event. To protect business niche these days, companies’ thinking must be resourceful but their product range—sought-after and of an immaculate quality.”

The exhibition was opened by the Director General of the International Exhibition Company BT 1 Mr Viesturs Tîle, the President of the Association of Textile and Clothing Industry Mr Guntis Strazds, H.E. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Latvia Mr Cheng Wenju, the Deputy Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Department, Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia Ms Inguna Beríe and the Intertextil Balticum Project Manager Ms Ilze Avota.

Since it was the 15th anniversary edition of Intertextil Balticum, the organiser paid tribute to its regular participants and long-time partner companies—Lenta, Klippan Saule, Limbaţu tîne, Diva, Texrep Baltika, Sonika, Burdas salons, COATS LATVIJA, as well as the Art Academy of Latvia, the Association of Textile and Clothing Industry and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia—for their contribution to event’s development.

10 participating countries
Intertextil Balticum 2010 gathered participants from 9 countries––Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Uzbekistan, Italy, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Russia and China––that presented furs, hosiery, underwear, knitwear and ready-to-wear clothing, footwear, accessories, adornments and jewellery, fabrics, home textile, clothing and underwear supplies, new technologies, production equipment, auxiliary equipment and devices.

Uniforms and functional clothing made in Latvia
This year, an important part of exhibition was devoted to uniforms and functional wear presented by such Latvian manufacturers as SRC Brasa, Solutions, Grif, Lords & Co, Saiva Textile, Pionieris 2, Neja & Ko, Nemo. Manufacturers displayed a copious assortment of uniforms––costumes, jackets and coats––for airline, banking, construction, transport, medical and hotel staff, as well as functional three-layer clothing for police and armed forces, security services, people working in public transport and railway sector, loggers and all other who need special-purpose clothing. Uniforms and three-piece functional clothing––undergarments, shirts and pullovers, and outerwear––protecting its wearer from rain, wind, fire and other risks was also presented in a special show thus giving an opportunity to evaluate its visual quality. Manufacturers, on turn, offered detailed information on conformity of clothing to all binding technical standards and requirements.

Chinese textile manufacturers look towards the Baltics
Intertextil Balticum 2010 gathered a number of participating companies from the People’s Republic of China. A delegation of business people representing 10 manufacturing enterprises visited Riga looking for eventual cooperation opportunities with companies from the Baltic and other European countries, to negotiate new partnerships and to search new export markets. Chinese textile manufacturers, on turn, visited their Latvian counterparts and discussed possibilities of importing Latvia’s textile products in China. The delegation also included top executives of several trading companies, manufacturers of quality footwear, ready-to-wear clothing and lingerie interested in the Baltic market and cooperation with Baltic distributors. All in all, Chinese business people took a favourable view of the fair and advantages it offered.

With textile industry innovation in focus
To promote understanding of the importance of innovation within the textile industry and to inform about innovated textile technologies in Latvia and abroad, The Latvian Technological Centre and EEN–Latvija in their thematic booth “Textile and Innovation” introduced textile innovations developed at several higher education institutions, information on the EEN Network tools to implement state-of-the-art technologies as well as told about the importance of relationship between design and innovation, and applicable scientific research in the field of textile manufacturing.
The conference “Textile Industry Innovation in Latvia and World Wide” focussed on scientific research applicable in textile manufacturing, the import and export opportunities of textile technologies, the significance of brand and design protection as well as eventual financial support for Latvian textile manufacturers.

B2B Matchmaking Event boosts new partnerships
Intertextil Balticum 2010 also presented the B2B Matchmaking Event—a contact platform for participants and business visitors looking for new partnerships—that offer an opportunity to learn about the offer and demand of other participants, to discuss eventual partnerships and to sign deals during the exhibition. The matchmaking event gathered about 50 participants from Latvia, Finland, China, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Georgia, Russia and Lithuania, commercial and economic officers from 16 foreign embassies, who informed about potential business opportunities in their countries and offered assistance in establishing contacts with potential business partners. Positive feedback and signed partnership contracts speak for necessity to develop the idea of matchmaking events also in the future.

Presentations of designer and fashion collections, bridal dress show
Intertextil Balticum 2010 shows introduced new collections offered by fashion designers, boutiques and clothing manufacturers. The boutique Ingrîda presented wedding and evening gown collection, SIA Âdas dizains and Bulgarian manufacturer Zoya-Zoya Ileva introduced the collection of leathers and shearling coats, SIA Polonija—the women’s wear collection of uniquely patterned and colourful silk, cotton and woollen kerchiefs; the Russian manufacturer Nuance-Corsets—exclusive and finely designed corsetry. The design group ZAFTE came out with the Recycled.lv summer collection “Milti” by the designer Inâra Gauja for creative and environmentally thinking individuals. The Coats Latvia’s show “Gedifra Yarn as Art” appeared to be very interesting for all needlework enthusiasts.

The fashion shows featured collections of the Association of Latvian Rural Women, graduate students of Burda Rîga School, students of Latvian vocational education institutions, as well as the magnificent collections of bridal dresses presented by the bridal boutiques Anna, Jűlija, Ingrîda, Myosotis and Love Story.

The competition for young fashion designers Habitus Baltija 2010, held simultaneously with the textile industry fair, presented 49 young designers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Norway, Turkey, Cyprus, Poland and Slovenia.
