The International Motor Show Auto 2020 Special Edition, held in autumn this year, finished successfully with traditional horn honking on September 27. The motor show presented the top automotive industry trends and Baltic premieres of several new vehicles.
The Auto 2020 Special Edition combined several thematic sections - “New cars”, “Auto mechanics”, “Auto Exotica”. 112 exhibitors from different countries displayed the latest car models, tuning masterpieces, classic vehicles, commercial vehicles, car service equipment, tools and other automotive industry news. A three-day attendance reached 17 368.
“Many automobile shows in Europe, such as the Geneva Motor Show and the Poznan Motor Show, were cancelled or postponed, the Auto 2020 Special Edition in Riga took place though. I am very pleased about it! Many thanks to all participants, partners and visitors! Everyone welcomed the high level of safety measures put in place at the event venue. Moreover, the well-thought-out stand allocation allowed safe communication keeping distancing in mind and to attain business goals set for the exhibition,” tells Gints Šāvējs, a manager of the Auto 2020 Motor Show.
Baltic premieres!
The most notable was the premiere of the Volkswagen ID.3 electric car, which made its debut on the Baltic market at the Auto 2020 Special Edition in Ķīpsala. The ID.3 is the first representative of VW’s new electric car family, which was displayed in its most luxurious version ? the ID.3 1st Plus. This electric car allows you to travel up to 420 km on a single charge. The exhibition also featured the VW’s eighth-generation Golf hatchback, the upgraded Tiguan SUV and other models.
The Auto 2020 Special Edition featured not only passenger cars, but also commercial vehicles. This market segment was represented by Iveco, the Otokar buses, MAN Truck with its new MAN TGX long-haul and heavy-duty truck with the MAN SmartSelect multimedia monitoring system and the TGE van, as well as Fiat Professional and Volkswagen Komerctransports.
Top car brands
The premium automotive segment at the Auto 2020 Special Edition was represented by a number of the latest Audi models the most popular of which among the visitors was the e-tron electric SUV. This premium segment electric car is equipped with a 402 horsepower electric motor enabling the electric vehicle to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h within 5.7 seconds and to reach 200 km/h. Moreover, this massive electric vehicle can get a Tesla-worthy 400 kilometres range without recharging its 95 kWh batteries.
The car dealer Autobrava presented the latest models of different car brands, for instance, the new SEAT Leon, which is a hot-blooded relative of the eighth generation VW Golf. The portal WhatCar.lv showcased the winners of the “What Car? Car of the Year 2020” competition – the BMW Series 3, Ford Puma, Škoda Scala and Superb Combi, Peugeot 5008, Toyota Corolla, Kia Picanto and others. Alongside the new cars, there was an exposition of legendary racecars ? from the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS to the classic Jaguar XK140 and Lancia Delta Integrale.
Car maintenance news
The Auto Mechanics participants offered the latest car maintenance solutions. Thus, CrossChem presented ETEX, a product destined to become the Latvian NOKIA, PRORING Latvia offered an up-to-date solution ? the diesel engine soot (DPF) filter washing / cleaning. A wide range of repair tools was available at the Avtodelo.lv stand, Autoriepu nams offered tires at favourable prices. At the Print Service and Paint Protect stands, stakeholders could test scratch-resistant body protection films, while Vējstikli demonstrated how fast car glass repairs could be performed. Participating companies had thought of activities for visitors, for instance, Sailun offered great prizes to the best ball kickers.
Exotic, modified and retro cars
Auto Exotica was the most attractive and discussed part of the motor show. It gathered local and foreign car clubs presenting both tuned vehicles and restored cars. The winners of the Auto Exotica Awards 2020 competition were determined and awarded during the event. The winner in the category The Best Rebuilt Car was the Lithuanian classic VW Beetle lowrider with a 30-year-old air conditioner installed in its side window. This car also received the Visitors’ Favourite Prize.
The only armoured car designed by RAF based on the RAF-2203 Latvija minibus and displayed in the stand of the Riga Motor Museum and the Antique Automobile Club of Latvia (AAK) won the title of the Weirdest Car of the Event. Its armour alone weighs about three tons putting a heavy load on the suspension that is also one of the main reasons, why it was not set to go into serial production.
Kristaps Blušs’ BMW E92 Eurofighter, a drift car developed by the HGK Racing Team that competed in both the Formula Drift World Championship and the Russian Drift Championship for the last couple of years was another noteworthy Auto Exotica Awards 2020 competition entry. This 800-horsepower BMW was the winner in the nomination The Best Race Car.
The exposition of the Latvian Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Club was recognized as the Auto Exotica Best Stand Concept. The Best Restoration Car Award went to the 50-year-old Mercedes-Benz 220S coupe presented by AutoClassic.lv.
The CC Nation Movement took part in Auto Exotica with more than 10 vehicles ? the top German and Japanese stanced sports cars ? receiving a number of different Auto Exotica Awards.
Fun for the whole family!
The Auto 2020 Special Edition was a family-friendly event offering various competitions and activities for a wider audience, including children. The most popular events among audience were the Greentrials extreme cycling shows – bike trial, BMX Freestyle and BMX Flatland. VR Gaming Latvija, in its turn, offered visitors to try out a virtual reality racing simulator.
The 25th anniversary Motor Show Auto 2021 will be held at Ķīpsala International Exhibition Centre, Riga, from 9-11 April.
