The Guide to Further Education Skola 2010 ApproachingThe 16th International Exhibition for Further Education Skola 2010 takes place at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre from 25 to 28 February 2010. The exhibition is an annual guide helping thousands of young people to understand and to choose the field of further studies, the best institution to pursue their chosen field accumulating knowledge, joining extracurricular activities and establishing new friendships. “The exhibition is traditionally visited by young people from the whole Latvia to enquire about information necessary to choose the right institution for further studies. It is much easier to come to the exhibition and to take final decision than to visit five institutions located in different parts of Latvia,” the project manager Mr Valts Jirgensons assures. Latvian universities, colleges, secondary and vocational schools The exhibition will present 140 participants from Latvia, Russia, Estonia, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Israel, the Netherlands, Switzerland and New Zealand. Visitors will have four days to get as much information as possible about state and private higher educational institutions, secondary schools, colleges, vocational schools, as well as about training centres, language courses, distance learning and e-studies. Participants will also present a wide variety of information materials about interest education, different foreign language and training courses. Skola 2010 will present all university type higher education institutions of Latvia––Daugavpils University, Latvia University of Agriculture, University of Latvia, Liepaja University, Riga Stradins University, Riga Technical University––as well as such non-university type institutions as the BA School of Business and Finance, Latvian Maritime Academy, National Defence Academy of Latvia, Latvian Academy of Sport Education, Rezekne Higher Education Institution, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Graduate School of Information Systems Management, Riga Aeronautical Institute, RISEBA, School of Business Administration Turîba, Higher School of Social Work and Social Pedagogics Attîstîba, Higher School of Social Technologies, International Higher School of Practical Psychology, Transport and Telecommunication Institute, Riga Graduate School of Law, Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy, Ventspils University College, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Baltic International Academy, Higher School of Economics and Culture. State Police College will inform visitors on the vocational education programme Police Work and the police service officer qualification, the first level professional higher education programme in Police Work with specialisation in the expert, investigation, criminal investigation and public order policing work. Latvia University of Agriculture (LUA) will offer an attractive and magnificent programme of different activities and competitions. The LUA Technical Faculty will present the new study programme Technical Expert and will tell great and surprising news to the 2010/2011 entrants—study programmes at a reduced tuition fee. The Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) will inform on opportunities to study economics and business administration in an international environment—here in Riga! Future students will get information about study programmes the school offers and the opportunity to join the SSE Riga Student Shadow Project. BA School of Business and Finance will disseminate brochures dedicated to pupils and their parents containing thorough information on fulltime and correspondence study programmes, curricula, enrolment conditions, exchange programmes, cultural and sportive events, opportunities to study at a reduced tuition fee and to earn this advantage already during the exhibition. BA is going to hold diversity of exciting competitions and to present different surprises! Transport and Telecommunication Institute will present information on changes implemented at school, opportunities to study there. The TTI representatives will introduce the new academic Master degree study programme Information Systems Management providing the qualification of M. Sc. Eng in Information Systems Management. Students, lecturers and deans of the School of Business Administration Turîba will tell about the study opportunities and reduced fees yet unseen, state funded study places and scholarships. Future students are welcome to attend Turiba’s booth, to feel school’s very special atmosphere, to join the quiz moderated by the TV star Juris Steinbergs and to win valuable prizes. Opportunities to study abroad Skola 2010 is a great source of information on opportunities to study abroad. University of Leeds, the UK’s second biggest university offering a wide variety of study programmes—560 undergraduate, 300 graduate and doctoral programmes covering diversity of fields from engineering technologies to business administration, from the arts to medicine—will be presented at the exhibition for the first time. The current number of students at the University of Leeds is about 30,500 young people from 130 countries of the world. Meridian Group Agency will provide information on undergraduate, graduate and MBA study programmes abroad, the opportunities to attend the best private schools and colleges in Great Britain, Switzerland and other countries, post graduate study programmes as an opportunity to perfect one’s qualifications or study something totally new. Those who have set ambitious goals will find information about the best way to UK’s most prestigious universities—Oxford and Cambridge. More specific and very helpful information about enrolment requirements at Britain’s higher education institutions will be provided in the free information brochure. Visitors will find here thorough information on general, intensive and specialised language and other courses in Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Malta, China and other countries. Meridian Group will consult all interested persons on the opportunities to pass such internationally renowned language examinations as IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL and ACCA in Latvia. Summer camps and language courses Information on summer camps for children and youth will be helpful for those who are planning their children summer holidays. But executives of the educational institutions on their turn will have an opportunity to visit stands of furnishings and furniture for educational institutions. Moreover, educational institutions will also present new study programmes for the 2010/2011 academic year. Skola 2010 is the right place to visit to get information on holiday programmes for pupils who wish to learn foreign languages with native speakers in Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Professional skills competition Young Professional 2010 at Kipsala This year 150 young people from 55 vocational education establishments will take part in the 2010 Young Professional Competitions held by the Ministry of Education and Science in conjoint with the State Education Centre. Young Professional 2010 will present demonstrations and contests in six professional fields—mechatronics, metalworking, woodworking, construction, hospitality and beauty care. The following demonstrations and competitions will take place at Kipsala—the Mobile Robotics Competition, pneumatics and electropneumatics demonstrations, the Joiners Professional Competition, welders shows, competitions in dry construction, thermal insulation, tiling, decorative plastering and painting, Knauf Dry Building Show, catering, waiting, chef, bartender and pastry cooks’ competitions, as well as professional competitions and shows of hairdressers and beauticians. Watching competitions and shows, young people will catch the specific character of each particular profession and diversity of tasks. The competition is aimed to tell about the significance of vocational education to Latvia’s national economy and to promote its further development. The 2010 Young Professional Competition will take place four days from 25 to 28 February. Award Ceremony will be held at 15.00 on 28 February. The 13th international exhibition for books and publishers Latvian Book Fair 2010 occurring simultaneously will give visitors an opportunity to attend authors’ readings, book opening events, meetings with famous writers, as well as to see an extensive display of books, to get information on new books and novelties in literature, to buy books at very reasonable exhibition price and to swap read books with other readers attending the Book Exchange Point. Special events and presentations for children audience will be held.
