PetExpo 2018 – more news, more dogs and cats!

The largest pet industry show "PetExpo 2018" this spring, bringing together even more dogs and cats, including those of rare breeds, is going to take place March 17–18 at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre. In addition to all beauty contests and agility shows, there will be the first in Latvia Dog Grooming Competition held!

“Even though we are lucky having snow this winter, find some time free from winter activities to visit Kipsala International Exhibition Centre and enjoy the exciting animal world. Visitors will have an opportunity for the first time watch dog groomers competing for a title of the best groomer,” tells Vija Klučniece, President of the Latvian Cynological Federation (LCF).

Almost 4000 dogs
Over the two days of the fair, nearly 4,000 dogs from 16 countries will compete for the title of the best canine. There will be a total of 236 dog breeds represented, including such rare ones as the Komondor, sometimes referred to as a “mop dog”, the Spanish galgo or Spanish greyhound (Galgo Espa?ol), the Bouvier des Ardennes, a number of such “French aristocrats” as the Ari?ge Pointer (Braque de l’Ari?ge) and the Artesian Norman Basset (Basset Artésien Normand) as well as hunting dogs, e.g. the Small Munsterlander Pointer.

The toughest fight for the crown of the best representative of a breed is expected to take place among Miniature Schnauzers, Jack Russell Terriers, Basenjis, Pomeranians, English Cocker Spaniels, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Pugs, Labrador Retrievers and Whippets. These and all other dogs will be evaluated by 12 experts from Sweden, Russia, Croatia, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Serbia, France and Lithuania.

On March 17 and 18, the visitors of “PetExpo 2018” will have an opportunity to watch dog obedience shows, exciting demonstrations of various sports, interesting performances of various breeds and other entertaining events. The complete programme of events will be soon published in our website: www.petexpo.lv

New – Dog Grooming Competition!
On the first event day, March 17, the Dog Grooming Competition will be held for the first time in Latvia that will be judged by competent experts from Spain and Belgium. The groomers will show their skills in the different categories – preparation of dogs for trimming or stripping when the dead hair is pulled out of dog’s coat by a special technique. Stakeholders will be given a possibility to compare a model’s photos before and after the competition. This will be a spectacular transformation!

Get advice on dog breeding and care!
Each stakeholder will be welcome in the stands of 20 kennel clubs and talk to breeding experts from the Latvian German Shepherd, Decorative Dogs, St. Bernard, Rottweiler, Greyhound, Pekingese and Japanese Chin, Poodle, Terrier, Swiss Mountain dogs and other kennel clubs. Visitors will have an opportunity to get answers to their questions, find out about new or forthcoming litters, if any of breeds has become especially favoured. The School of Young Handlers will be waiting families with children willing to learn all about participation in dog shows.

More than 400 cats
Cat lovers will also have the opportunity to see intense competitions, which will include more than 400 cats. Among all of the noble ones of 34 cat breeds presented at "PetExpo 2018" it will be also possible to see rarities such as Ragdolls, Bombay cats, Birmans, or the Sacred Cats of Burma, and Norwegian Forest cats. Those beautiful and noble cats will be judged by five feline experts from Italy, Russia, Germany and Lithuania.

The cat show will offer competition rings for spayed or neutered cats, kittens and adult mousers. There will also be a blue cat show featuring blue cats of different breeds, a curly-haired cat show featuring cats of three different breeds, as well as a show of rarities.
