Held by the Latvian Beekeepers’ Association (LBB) the Best Latvian Honey Competition took place during the Latvian Dairy, Bread and Honey Festival on August 26 in Jelgava. Several hundred attendees at the LBB tent took part in tasting and voted for the most popular Latvian honey this year.
The lime flower honey by Jānis Sulutaurs, a beekeeper of the Dorītes farm in Ķekava Region, for the second year in a row, was determined as the winner. The second best ? buckwheat honey by the beekeeper Rimants Gaidamovičs from Naukšēni, but the third best ? willow dandelion honey by SIA Meduspils and the beekeeker Janis Vainovskis from Saldus.
The aim of the competition is to choose the best honey among serious honey producers who are able to provide sufficient quantity of honey so that everyone could buy their favourite honey in the desired amount. The official opening ceremony of “Riga Food 2017” will take place in the conference room No. 3 at 11.00 on September 6.
