Pan-Baltic premieres of new cars at Auto 2017!
The Baltics’ largest motor show “Auto 2017” showcasing a vast range of brand new passenger cars and SUVs, as well as offering a number of pan-Baltic premiers takes place at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre from 7–9 April. Preparations for the show are still underway, but some participants already lay their cards on the table.
The new Renault Koleos
comes straight from the Geneva Motor Show held early this month. The Koleos shares much of its mechanical structure with the Nissan X-Trail and is a bit larger than its eldest brother. It is a pretty exclusive opportunity to see it in flesh at “Auto 2017” as to the Renault dealers’ showrooms it will arrive only in autumn.
“Auto 2017” offers the Baltic premiere of Peugeot 5008
, Renault’s toughest French competitor, that has morphed from a family minivan into a large seven-seater SUV. Despite the changed format, the 5008 still has room for the whole family inside – both in a passenger compartment and luggage boot. Alongside the new 5008, there will be the smaller 3008 SUV, the winner of the European Car of the Year 2017 at Geneva Motor Show.
Return of the premium segment brands – Jaguar and Land Rover, the latter coming with the new Land Rover Discovery SUV –, is the most significant novelty of the motor show. This Land Rover Discovery
has always been an uncompromising SUV offering space for seven passengers and windows large enough to enjoy the landscape. The new Discovery has a much more rounded shape, eschewing the traditional angular design, and uses more aluminium thus becoming 480 kg lighter compared with its predecessor.
Although sport utility vehicles top the new car market segment of Latvia, not everybody need or can afford one. The Honda Civic
hatchback has been very popular in Latvia and its new model features turbo engines. The 2017 Honda Civic hatchback has not only more power but is also more economic! Its base version, for example, has only three cylinders, but owing to a turbocharger develops 127 HP.
The new Hyundai i30
is another compact hatchback to be premiered at “Auto 2017”. The South Korean carmaker plans a thorough offensive in the European market offering 3- and 5-door hatchback, a universal and even a 200HP sporty modification of Hyundai i30. Its base version is similar to the Honda Civic above available with a 1l 3-cylinder engine with turbocharging capable to develop 120HP.
The 5th generation Nissan Micra
hatchback has faced significant modifications. The new Micra features aggressive lines thus becoming more attractive for the male audience. It has grown in dimensions; atmospheric engines have been replaced with turbo engines. This model alike other Nissan cars stands out for electronic comfort and security systems that are available at a reasonable price.
Presently, the following passenger car and commercial vehicle brands have confirmed their participation in “Auto 2017”: Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Dacia, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Iveco Bus, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, MAN, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Range Rover, Renault, Scania, Solaris Bus, SsangYong, SEAT, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota and Volkswagen. The number of car brands and the exhibition area taken up by authorized dealers have substantially grown compared to the year past. Participant offer will be more versatile and interesting for visitors.
The annual Latvia's Car of the Year competition starts accepting applications during “Auto 2017”. The organizers have already informed that most of the abovementioned premieres take part in the Car of the Year 2018 competition. All contenders, for example the new Toyota C-HR or the modernised Volkswagen Golf will be displayed in the Latvia’s Car of the Year stand at “Auto 2017”.
The same as previous years, “Auto 2017” will offer commercial vehicles, industrial machinery and garage equipment, while masterpieces of car tuning and concept cars will be displayed at “Auto Exotica”.
