Who is the best young auto mechanic in Latvia? Find out at “Auto 2017”!

On 7 and 8 April, the best young auto mechanics from all over Latvia will gather at “Auto 2017”, in order to take part in the national final of the professional mastery competition “Young Auto Mechanic 2017”. There will be 12 finalists competing for the title of the best young auto mechanic and the opportunity to represent Latvia internationally.

During the semi-final of the contest “Young Auto Mechanic 2017”, which took place on 24 February in Ķīpsala, the young mechanics had to showcase their theoretical knowledge. The semi-final included 49 contestants from 13 educational institutions, whereas the possibility to compete in the national final and test one’s skills in practical tasks was secured by 12 best semi-finalists from seven schools: Riga State Technical School, Rēzekne Vocational Secondary School, VECC “Riga Technical College”, Ventspils Vocational Secondary School, Priekuļi Technical School, VECC “Kandava Agricultural Technical School” and Malnava College.

“The skills and abilities of young specialists grow with every year, and the competition for making it to the final becomes more and more intense. The results of the semi-final confirm that a lot depends on the quality of training, as well as the attitude that the young professionals have towards their future profession! The contest provides a great opportunity for the young specialists to try out the latest equipment and devices, as well as meet their next employer!” Aldis Vasiļevskis, Chairman of the Action Commission of the Contest and Head of a branch of SIA “Inter Cars Latvija”, points out.

Latest technologies and tasks of various levels of difficulty

For the first time in the history of the contest, the work stations of the young auto mechanics will be set up by six foreign car manufacturers and the leading sellers of car service devices and equipment. It will be a great opportunity for the young mechanics to get to know and work with the latest technologies, devices and tools.

The finalists will have to carry out tasks of various levels of difficulty, for example, carry out repair works on a lorry, replace the timing belt of an engine, repair a drive shaft, carry out diagnostics of control blocks and systems, do clutch repair etc.

The contestants will be assessed by an Expert Commission: Aldis Vasiļevskis, Chairman of the Commission and Head of the “Rumbula” trade branch of “Inter Cars Latvija”, Egils Blaubergs, Head of the Procurement and Logistics Department at “Inter Cars Latvija”, Jānis Nipers, Deputy Principal of VECC “Riga Technical College”, and Gints Šāvējs, Manager of the “Auto” fair.

The final will take place for two days, on 7 and 8 April, at the “Auto 2017” fair in the Ķīpsala International Exhibition Centre. All visitors of the fair will be able to see the contestants and the modern devices in action. The award ceremony will take place on 8 April at 17:00.

Valuable prizes
The finalists will not compete only for the title of the best young auto mechanic, but also for valuable prizes aimed at their further development. Three winners of the national final will head to Warsaw together with their teachers, in order to represent Latvia at the international final of the contest “Young Auto Mechanic 2017”. Moreover, “Inter Cars” will present the best competitors with a trip to Germany, where they will have the opportunity to visit the plant of a certain car part manufacturer.

Besides, the schools, the students of which will be in the Top 3, will be awarded with special prizes of “Intel Cars Latvija”: the 1st place will be awarded a 1000 euro gift card, 2nd place – a 700 euro gift card, and the 3rd place – a 500 euro gift card for purchasing equipment or tools for the auto repair programme of the respective educational establishment. The contest is organised by the International Exhibition Company BT 1 and SIA “Inter Cars Latvija” in cooperation with VECC “Riga Technical College”, “Scania” Baltic Training Centre, SIA “Volvo Truck Latvia”, SIA “Auto Cardan” and SIA “Gvidis”.

From 7 to 9 April the Ķīpsala International Exhibition Centre will host the largest automotive industry fair in the Baltics – “Auto 2017” – offering four thematic sections for people with various interests:
• “Auto” – the largest exhibition-fair of new cars in the Baltics;
• “Transport Machinery” – a section dedicated to transport and industrial machinery;
• “Auto Mechanics” – a section dedicated to auto service equipment and car accessories;
• “Auto Exotica” – the largest and most popular car tuning show in Eastern Europe.
