The popular “Latvian Book Fair 2017” is approaching!
From 24 to 26 February, the International Exhibition Centre Ķīpsala will turn into an inspiring book town, where writers, translators, publishers and readers will meet. For three days, Ķīpsala will host the most essential book event of the year – the International Book and Publishers Exhibition “Latvian Book Fair 2017”, where a diverse range of books will be offered by Latvian and foreign publishing houses.
The exhibition will be supplemented by the “Big Stage” with a broad and diverse cultural programme: readings by authors, book releases, meetings with writers. This year’s fair will include a novelty – a cosily arranged “Writer’s Living-Room”.
Russia will be the guest country of “Latvian Book Fair 2017”. The Baltic states have always displayed great interest in Russian culture and literature, as we are linked by the nearness of our countries and the strong cultural ties. The part of the population who have Russian as their native language and who really appreciate direct contact with Russian publishers and writers is of high significance.
Ķīpsala will be pleased to welcome the lively and enthusiastic little readers. Publishers will introduce children, their parents and grandparents to characters of books and authors at the “Cheerful Reading-Room”. In addition to the diverse range of books, the exhibition will also include intellectual games, especially those that improve one’s reading skills, evolving and educational things, practical materials and ideas for creative activities.
Approximately 3,000 books – such is the contribution of the Repository Exchange Fund of Riga Central Library to the “Book Exchange Point”. Visitors are invited to bring books that they have reread multiple times and do not need anymore, in order to exchange them for ones not yet read. The “Book Exchange Point” will have picture and fairy-tale books for children, reference literature, art books and other reading material for book lovers.
“Latvian Book Fair 2017” is organised by the International Exhibition Company BT 1 in cooperation with the Latvian Publishers’ Association.
At the same time, the most significant annual event of education – the Education Fair “Skola 2017” – will take place, offering comprehensive information on the possibilities to study in Latvia and abroad, as well as assisting in the selection of the most suitable educational paths for all those interested.
