Keen young people and exciting activities – Skola2024 was a success

On 25 February, after three busy and inspiring days, the largest education trade show in Latvia, Skola2024, which brought together 116 participants from six countries, such as Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, France, Uzbekistan and Germany, closed its doors to visitors.

19,595 visitors came to Skola 2024 to appreciate its diverse offer. For three days young people flowed to Ķīpsala to soak up information about university, college, technical school and other education programmes, as well as study opportunities abroad. Visitors were keen to extract as much information about study programmes and state-ensured education, exchange and internship programmes, and extracurricular activities, as teachers, professors and students of Riga Technical University, Riga Stradiņš University, RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Latvian Academy of Culture, Daugavpils University, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, “Turība” University, Riga Graduate School of Law, Baltic International Academy, Transport and Communications Institute, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, BA School of Business and Finance, and many other educational establishments could provide. There was also plenty of information about training courses, language and hobby camps, and informal education. Moreover, the section with the book show offered a great chance to browse and buy most recent releases.

Youngsters actively engaged with various professional demonstrations, competitions, visitor and career guidance activities.

Diverse events

This year’s Skola had the total of three stages: Datorium tech stage, stage “Saies” (Come Together) and an Open Stage, with lots of exciting events. There was a total of 75 different events, including presentations, discussions, conversations, demonstrations and shows. Most dazzling, creative events with demonstrations and shows, with popular people, and focused on current trends, were the most popular among visitors.

On 23 February, the opening day, most of young people were attracted to Turība University’s informal youth forum “Rosinātava’24” (Stimulus’24). “Resetting books: double helix of education and culture”, an event organised by Latvian Book Publishers Association on 23 February, was another highlight that addressed the declining reading skills among children and attracted media attention.

“Latvijas Mediji” Publishing House celebrated its 25th anniversary by giving its readers an extensive cultural programme with meet and greets with authors and discussions about intersection between writing and blogging that many young people are interested in. Whereas “Pētergailis” Publishing House offered book lovers an opportunity to meet the world-famous Czech writer Alena Mornštajnov? at their stand.
